Copper pipes are typically resistant to corrosion, but one common issue that can occur is the development of pinhole leaks. These leaks happen due to pitting corrosion, which forms on the inside of the pipe. While copper is naturally corrosion-resistant, changes in water quality can affect how copper reacts to water. Factors such as hard or soft water, or water with a high pH, can lead to corrosion and result in pinhole leaks.

Additionally, excessive water velocity can contribute to copper pipe corrosion. When water pressure and flow exceed the pipe’s capacity, it can wear down the pipe’s protective layer. This issue is most often found at bends or joints, such as elbows and tees, where water flow changes direction.
